The author ends the story with a kid asking to keep the pigeon as a pet because he loves the pigeon so much he doesn't want Palmer to keep the secret anymore from anyone.
I beleive that the author of this book ended the story with a question coming from a boy asking to have a pigeon as a pet because, the author probably wanted to show that the boy is another pigeon lover as Dorothy and Palmer are and to also end the story with a bit of a mystery of why he would want a pigeon because, at the Pigeon Day practice with the little kids, they all wanted to wring a real pigeon and probably, the author wants the readers to wonder wether the boy wanted a pigeon to wring it or to care for it.
I think that at the end of the story the child asks if he can have a pigeon for a pet because Palmer showed them that they don't have to wring a pigeon’s neck and kill it. But that you can be kind, gentle and take care of pigeons so a child got the message and asked if he/she could have a pigeon for a pet.
I think the author chooses to end the story with a chid in the crowd asking for a pigeon as a pigeon because he say Palmer save a pigeon and start to walk away from the crowd with a pigeon in his arms.
I think the author ended the book with a boy asking for a pigeon has a pet because the author wanted to tell the reader that there are more kids that love pigeons then just Palmer and Dorothy.
I think the author chose to end the book with a small kid asking to have a pigeon because he wanted show there are some other kids like pigeons and to show not only Palmer and Dorothy are not the only kids who like pigeons.
I think the author chose to end the book with a kid in the crowd asking for a piegon as a pet because Palmer changed everything by having a pigeon as a pet.
I think the author ended the story with someone else wanting a piegon so he could show that more people care about piegons either than Palmer and Dorthy
The auther chooses at the end of the story with a chid from the croud to ask if he could have a piegon because he wants to show that more then one person likes piegons.
I think the reason why the authur chose to have a kid ask a question at the end of the stoy "Can I have a pigeon as a pet?" because he mite have a nother book and it will answer that question.
